Dix Hills Kitchen Renovation
A dated oak kitchen rebuilt around painted cabinetry, an arabesque backsplash and a farmhouse sink under the window.
Project overview
The original kitchen had oak cabinets and black appliances. The renovation brightened the room while keeping it warm, added storage, and put the sink on the window where it belongs.
New painted cabinets run the length of the window wall and turn the corner into a glass-front cabinet lit from inside. The arabesque tile backsplash carries the full run, cut carefully around the window trim, outlets and the range hood line, and under-cabinet lighting washes it at night. A deep farmhouse sink sits centered on the window, flanked by the dishwasher and a run of drawers.
The island keeps a dark wood top, which ties the painted cabinets back to the darker floors and gives the room a little contrast. The adjoining laundry area was finished at the same time, so the two spaces read as one renovation instead of a kitchen next to an afterthought.
